Your Trusted Guide to Evidence-Based Wellness and Metabolic Health

Welcome to Fitness Lifestyle Health Club. I’m Dr. Elena Velez, and for over 15 years, I’ve dedicated my career to helping people reclaim their health through science-backed nutrition, metabolic optimization, and sustainable lifestyle changes.
My Medical Background
I earned my Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2008, where I specialized in metabolic disorders and nutritional biochemistry. After completing my residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, I pursued additional fellowship training in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with thousands of patients struggling with:
- Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes
- Metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance
- Weight management challenges after age 40
- Chronic inflammation and autoimmune conditions
- Nutritional deficiencies affecting overall health
My approach combines traditional medical knowledge with emerging research in functional medicine, nutritional science, and preventive health strategies.
Why I Started This Blog
In 2023, I noticed a troubling pattern in my practice: patients were spending thousands of dollars on medications and treatments that only addressed symptoms, not root causes. Meanwhile, they were bombarded with conflicting health information online—much of it from unqualified sources promoting quick fixes and miracle cures.
I created Fitness Lifestyle Health Club to bridge this gap. My mission is simple: provide honest, research-based reviews of supplements, nutritional interventions, and lifestyle strategies that actually work—backed by clinical evidence and real-world testing.
My Review Philosophy
Unlike most health blogs that simply regurgitate marketing claims, I take a rigorous, evidence-based approach to every product I review:
1. Clinical Research Review
I thoroughly examine peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and meta-analyses related to each ingredient and formulation. If the science doesn’t support the claims, I say so.
2. Personal Testing Protocol
When possible, I test products personally for 60-90 days, documenting measurable outcomes like blood work, body composition, energy levels, and metabolic markers. I believe in “practicing what I preach.”
3. Patient Feedback Integration
I consult with patients who’ve used these products and incorporate their real-world experiences—both positive and negative—into my reviews.
4. Transparent Disclosure
I clearly identify when content contains affiliate relationships. However, my recommendations are never influenced by compensation. I only recommend products I would suggest to my own patients or family members.
5. Continuous Updates
Science evolves, and so do my recommendations. I regularly update articles with new research, safety alerts, and emerging evidence.
Areas of Expertise
My clinical experience and research focus span several interconnected areas of metabolic health:
Metabolic Health & Blood Sugar Regulation
I specialize in helping patients reverse prediabetes, manage type 2 diabetes, and overcome insulin resistance through targeted nutritional strategies and evidence-based supplementation.
Weight Management Over 40
The metabolic slowdown that begins in our 40s requires a different approach than conventional weight loss advice. I focus on hormone optimization, muscle preservation, and sustainable fat loss strategies.
Nutritional Biochemistry
Understanding how nutrients interact at the cellular level is crucial for optimal health. I translate complex biochemistry into actionable recommendations my patients can implement immediately.
Supplement Science & Safety
With thousands of supplements flooding the market—many of questionable quality—I help patients navigate what works, what’s safe, and what’s worth the investment.
Inflammation & Chronic Disease Prevention
Chronic inflammation is the root cause of most modern diseases. My approach focuses on identifying and eliminating inflammatory triggers through diet, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation.

My Approach to Patient Care
Whether working with patients in my practice or creating content for this blog, my philosophy remains consistent:
Honesty Over Hype
I’ll never tell you something is a “miracle cure” or “works for everyone.” Medicine is nuanced, and individual responses vary. I present the evidence, explain the science, and help you make informed decisions.
Root Cause Focus
Symptoms are signals. Rather than simply masking problems with medications, I work to identify and address underlying metabolic dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies, and lifestyle factors.
Sustainable Solutions
Quick fixes rarely last. I prioritize strategies you can maintain for life—whether that’s a supplement protocol, dietary pattern, or lifestyle modification.
Measurable Outcomes
We track progress with objective data: blood work, body composition, energy levels, sleep quality, and other quantifiable metrics. If something isn’t working, we adjust.
Patient Empowerment
My goal is to educate and empower you to take control of your health. The more you understand about how your body works, the better decisions you’ll make.
What You Can Expect From This Blog
Every article on Fitness Lifestyle Health Club is created with the same rigor I apply to patient care:
In-Depth Product Reviews
I don’t just list ingredients—I explain the mechanism of action, review the clinical evidence, discuss proper dosing, and share real-world results from testing periods of 60-90 days.
Science Translation
Medical research can be dense and inaccessible. I break down complex studies into clear, actionable information without dumbing down the science.
Honest Pros & Cons
No product is perfect. I discuss both benefits and limitations, potential side effects, drug interactions, and who should (and shouldn’t) use specific supplements.
Regular Updates
As new research emerges or safety concerns arise, I update existing content. Your health decisions should be based on the most current evidence available.
Community Engagement
I read and respond to comments, questions, and feedback. Your experiences and insights contribute to the collective knowledge we’re building here.
My Personal Health Journey
I believe transparency builds trust, so I’ll share something personal: I’m not just a doctor writing about metabolic health in theory. At age 48, I experienced the metabolic slowdown I now help patients navigate.
Despite maintaining the same diet and exercise routine that kept me healthy in my 30s, I gained 18 pounds over two years. My fasting blood sugar crept up to 104 mg/dL (prediabetic range), and my energy levels plummeted.
This personal experience transformed my practice. I became obsessed with understanding the metabolic shifts that occur after age 40 and identifying science-backed interventions that actually work—not just in theory, but in real life.
Through targeted nutritional changes, strategic supplementation (including compounds like berberine that I now recommend to patients), strength training, and stress management, I reversed these changes. My blood sugar normalized, I lost the weight, and I regained my energy.
This journey made me a better doctor. I understand the frustration my patients feel when their bodies stop responding to strategies that used to work. And I’ve personally tested many of the interventions I now recommend.
