The Reason Armpit Hair Doesn’t Grow Down To Your Knees

Li longs to learn: How does hair know when to grow? When you shave your legs, it grows back but it stops growing after a certain length. If you shave it again, it will grow back to that length. What’s up with that???

The Left Brain leads her:
Li, actually your question is easy to answer once you understand two things:

3 stages of hair growth

The first thing to know is that hair goes through 3 different stages as it grows: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen phases. The Anagen stage (that’s Anagen, not Anakin!) is the stage where the hair grows like crazy. This stage can last a up to 4 to 6 years and can produce scalp hairs that grow to be almost 3 feet in length! (that’s 100 cm for our international readers). And if you think 3 feet is impressive, you ain’t seen nothin’! Human scalp hair longer than 5 feet has been reported! Yikes! We’d hate to see the bill from her stylist!

The Catagen stage follows the Anagen stage. This is basically a transitional stage which means the follicle is slowing down production of the hair, not much happens here.

The third stage is the Telogen, or resting, stage. The hair stops growing and just sits there in the follicle. When the cycle starts all over again with Anagen phase, the old hair is pushed out by the new hair. That’s one of the reasons you normally shed about 100 or so hairs each day – the old ones are getting replaced by the new ones.

Two types of hairs

Ok, second thing to understand is that there are two different types of hairs: Terminal and Vellus. Terminal are long hairs (the 3 footers we mentioned) and are thicker and have a longer growing cycle (growing season like flowers) 6 to 8 years. Meaning most of the time they are in Anagen phase. These are found on the scalp, mostly. Terminal hairs are the kind you have to cut because they get too long.

Vellus on the other hand are short hairs (a millimeter or less) they are very fine, and they have a very short life cycle, which means they spend most of the time in the Telogen phase. That also means they’ll never grow as long as scalp hair. These very fine hairs are found on “hairless” parts of the body like arms and legs. (Ok, those areas aren’t hairless, but they kind of look hairless because the hairs are so tiny and fine.)

So, to answer your question, that’s how hair knows when to grow – it’s determined by the type of hair and the stage of growth it’s in. Which of course is determined by hormones. Isn’t everything?

Maintaining energy balance during races may protect cyclists’ bones, researcher says

The reasons for the reduced bone mass in elite cyclists are not fully understood, but one explanation is an imbalance between bone formation and bone breakdown due to the high-energy cost of stage racing. However, a new study reveals that proper nutrition during multi-day stage races might prevent harmful changes in bone turnover.

Chemicalization as a Result from Using Affirmations

In my last entry on this blog, I discussed some great uses for affirmations, which included reprogramming with them to undo old thought patterns that might be blocking creative flow to higher expression and manifestation.

Back in the early 90s, I started working with positive affirmations. I found them to be very helpful in my quest to re-discover myself, and to work towards re-creating my life path. I used them, along with meditation, to open my consciousness so I could co-create with my Higher Self. I used affirmations about connecting to my Higher Self, as I came to realize that I only wanted what was best for everyone concerned in all situations, and that since I don’t always know what was best for everyone concerned, I’d better open myself to what God might want for me and my life. I used affirmations such as, “As I am One with the Almight One, so I am One with my Higher Good“. “The Mind that knows how is showing me now. The Mind that knows where is leading me there. The Mind that knows when, will tell me, then!“, “God’s Will, God’s Way, God’s Time, not mine!

To my surprise, things would change very rapidly when I started to work with affirmations. Many times, things would get better very quickly. But, sometimes, things would seem to go very wrong. Suddenly chaos seemed to ensue. I was confused, thinking that maybe I was doing it all wrong. I could see that suddenly things were moving very quickly in my life, but I didn’t understand why the uncomfortable things were happening, too.

I was tempted to stop using the affirmations, and I spoke to a Unity minister about what was happening. She recommended a book to me that changed my view of life, forever. The book is by Catherine Ponder, and is called, The Dynamic Laws of Healing.

Chapter 12 is titled, Chemicalization, A Healing Process. A quote from the second page of chapter 12 reads:

Did you ever put soda in an acid fluid and witness the agitation or excited action that took place? One of the substances neutralized the other, and something better resulted from the action, didn’t it?
This is often what happens in the minds and bodies of people when they begin to deliberatly practice the dynamics of right thought. A chemical change literally takes place in their thoughts and feelings, which is then reflected in their bodies and affairs.
They may feel nervous, frightened and agitated. If they have ever been sick, their old diseases may flare up again. If they’ve been morally bad, the old desires and habits may take possession of them again. If they have had previous financial problems, all at once things may seem darker and more hopeless than ever. In their human relationships, it may seem that everybody has turned against them and that inharmony is the order of the day.
What has happened?

In a nutshell, chemicalization happens! It is a cleansing process that must take place to make room for the new good that is being affirmed. As within so without, so as we cancel out old thought patterns and replace them with right thoughts, the circumstances in our lives will suddenly follow suit!

The first stage of chemicalization is when we start affirming what we would like to see for our growth, and denying limitation. This is the stirring up stage.

The second stage of chemicalization is where the commotion starts. Things are just not stirring, they are shaking and breaking. It may be difficult to keep the faith during these times, so it is even more vital that the affirmations continue to be used, and to even affirm that “s one door shuts, another opens“, and “Everything happens for a reason.“, and that “Vast improvement is on the way!

Then comes the third stage of chemicalization, in which things suddenly get very quiet. It can be compared to what happens after a natural disaster. After everything is shaken up, and is laying in rubble, the people who experienced it are now staring in disbelief, wondering what happened, and if they will ever be able to pull themselves up again. Yet, many who go through these processes gain much strength, and they find an inner peace, knowing that the rebuilding stage will be just ahead, after they heal from having to let go of what once was. “All is well. I let go what goes!

Now comes the final stage of chemicalization, which may also seem a bit quiet, at first. This is when the new good begins to appear. A time when we might want to shout it from the mountain tops that our dreams are starting to come true! Yet, this is NOT the time to do such a thing. It is important to keep quiet about what is going on, so as not to disrupt the process from unfolding by the thoughts and opinions of others about your new experience. They will see the results, so be patient with the process. Quietly say to yourself, “Divine fulfillment is mine now. Thank you,(your name for Higher Power)!

After I read about chemicalization in the book, The Dynamic Laws of Healing, I was relieved to find out what had been going on. I have continued to use positive affirmations, experience chemicalization on many levels, and also see the manifestation of many beautiful desires come true.

So, don’t give up! Brace yourself for chemicalization, and know that the Wisdom of the Universe is showing itself in your life. “I willingly let go of the old, and gladly lay hold of the new. God’s Perfect Will be done, within, through and around me, now and forever!

Blessings!
